La Liberacion by CSS Listen on Spotify

In a way, there are few things as bad as being hyped as “the sound of…” a certain time. CSS were one of the hottest bands of 2007, but second album, Donkey (2008) failed to excite many. It looks like third offering, La Liberacion, will have the same fate…it sounds dated already, which must be a drag for such a post-modern band. On the other hand…it’s pretty good! It’d be a shame if this one get’s ignored, too. Definitely worth a listen!

 

Sonic Youth by Sonic Youth Listen on Spotify

Here’s an oldie. After finishing reading the Sonic Youth bio ‘Goodbye 20th Century’ I became even more obsessed with the band, and decided to finally check their rare debut EP, which was re-released a couple of years ago, with bonus tracks. From opening track ‘The Burning Spear’ – with reggae inspired bassline, mechanical beats, bell-like guitars and a drill played thru a wah pedal – this is Sonic Youth’s most “New York” album – pure 80’s No Wave, when SY were still developing their own personality and were more inspired by the exciting scene that they sprung from. Ace…Listen!

Is David Bowie Dying? by Flaming Lips and Neon Indian

Well. I was bored. And I got thinking…”I wonder what David Bowie is up to these days. I wonder if he’s ok, or rumours he’s dying are true?”. As you would. So I did a Google search and found this amazing, super limited-edition collaboration between Flaming Lips and Neon Indian, which shamefully went under my radar when released back in March. It’s great…Listen!
